Kamakhya Access Corridor construction has begun in Guwahati as the relocation of affected families gets underway. Check the latest project updates and key details.

Guwahati: The construction of the Kamakhya access corridor for the temple has started in Guwahati in order to improve accessibility to the much-revered Kamakhya Temple situated atop the Nilachal Hill. Moreover, the process of relocation of the people who have been affected by the process has also been taken up simultaneously.
The Kamakhya Temple is regarded as one of the most revered shrines in the nation, and millions of visitors throng there every year. But during the times when there are huge crowds of pilgrims visiting the shrine, the access routes to the shrine are generally congested, making it difficult for the pilgrims to approach the shrine.
With the beginning of the construction stage of the project, the government has started relocating people from the project area. Relocation of people would ensure a proper clearing of the area and facilitate the progress of construction work in a systematic manner.
The project means much more than the development of infrastructure for the residents of Guwahati. People are looking forward to better accessibility to the temple with the help of the project while retaining the sanctity and significance of the holy shrine. At the same time, devotees expect the development of a safe passage to the temple. The work is likely to be carried out in stages.
