Guwahati Satellite City Project: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces a new township near the airport with a land-pooling model and 1 lakh job potential.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday made a big announcement regarding the construction of a satellite town near the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The upcoming satellite town will be one of the biggest urban development projects in Assam and is expected to provide nearly one lakh jobs.
Elaborating upon this project, CM Sarma said that the development of this new satellite town in Assam will be carried out via the land pooling process wherein landowners offer their own land for planned urban development rather than the government taking over the land. As per him, this process of development will ensure that even the owners of these lands benefit from the increase in the land value once it is developed.
He further mentioned that the proposed city will be a modern urban town and have everything related to it, such as residential, commercial, and industrial infrastructure. He further added that this project will bring about much private investment and job opportunities and will help in the long-term economic development of Assam.
The Chief Minister said that the satellite city project can help create about 1 lakh jobs in various sectors, including construction, real estate, logistics, retail, hospitality, education, healthcare, and various other service sectors through phased implementation of the project.
The Government of Assam has already made the necessary laws for the development of satellite cities and has been working on the implementation of the land pooling concept. Details of the satellite city project in terms of its location, master plan, implementation, and investments are likely to be announced soon.
