Assam filmmaker Rima Das wins Best Indie Film at Melbourne Festival 2026 for her latest film ‘Not a Hero,’ bringing another global honor to Assamese cinema.
Guwahati, August 14: Filmmaker Rima Das, who hails from Assam, has once again put Assamese cinema in the spotlight in the international arena. Her latest film, Not a Hero, has won the Best Indie Film prize at the 17th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026.
The film was one of the nominees in the category Best Indie Film at the Melbourne film festival. It has gone on to win the coveted award in the Best Indie Film category.
The movie is a story of an 11-year-old boy, Mivan, who moves out of the city to his native village and gradually becomes acquainted with village life and makes new friends.
Directed by Rima Das, the film has been produced in the Assamese, Hindi, and English languages. It had a world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.
She is a filmmaker who narrates simple stories through a natural form of cinematography. Earlier, she had created history in the international film circuits through her film Village Rockstars.
Thus, for the people of Assam, the success of Rima Das is one more feather in their cap as far as world cinema is concerned.
