Patharkandi Agricultural College will be Barak Valley’s first, with the Assam Cabinet approving 84.6 acres of land for the new institution.

Students in Barak Valley who want to pursue agricultural studies may soon have a new option closer to home. The state of Assam will soon have its fourth agricultural college at Patharkandi in the district of Sribhumi, which will be the first agricultural college in Barak Valley.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on September 30 that the Assam Cabinet has approved the allotment of 84.6 acres of land at Patharkandi for the proposed college.
Patharkandi Agricultural College to Open New Opportunities for Barak Valley Students
This proposed agricultural college is significant because of the benefits that would accrue to students in Barak Valley and the surrounding regions. The establishment of an agricultural college in this region would mean that the local students can access education in this area without necessarily relying solely on colleges situated elsewhere.
Apart from offering courses in agricultural education, this college is also expected to carry out agricultural research, which may include research concerning crops and farm practices that pertain to the region. This is because of the importance of agriculture in the local economy.
At this point, the information available concerns the allocation of land and the establishment of the college. Other aspects like the courses offered, admission process, and time of operation have not been announced.
