The State Language ‘Assamese’ ( অসমীয়া )

Recently, our state language, Assamese honored as a classical language. The Assamese language has its own history and cultural contribution for over 1500 years. The Assamese language for native people as ‘Asomiya’. It is also very rich in literature, there are many poems and stories in the language of Assamese. The first poem in the Assamese language is ‘Prahlad Charita’, written by Hema Saraswati in the 13th century, and ‘ Bhanumati is the first novel in the Assamese language, written by Padmanath Gohain Boruah
The State Animal: Greater One-Horned Rhino

Greater One-Horned Rhino is our State Animal. In Assam, 80% of greater one-horned rhinos are found and most of them are found in Kaziranga National Park.
The Greater One-Horn Rhino is now in threatened, the government takes many initiatives to protect them. like, increased protected area, implement some strict rules on national parks. The Assam government has also taken some efforts to increase its population.
The state flower: foxtail orchid

Another symbol of Assam is the state flower, the foxtail orchid, which is locally known as kopou fool. Kopou phool symbolizes the love between people and is also known for its rich cultural significance and prosperity.
Especially during bihu, the bihu nachani (dancer) ties their hair. The flowers are stunning and vibrant, and you can find them all over Assam. They typically bloom in March and April, just in time for Bohag Bihu.
The State Anthem: O mur apunar dekh

The Assam state symbol’s one of the most important symbols, is our state Anthem o mur apunar dekh. This was written by Lakshmi Nath Bezbaruah, and the tune was given by Kamala Prasad Agarwala. O mur apunar dekh was published in ‘ Bahi’, the Assamese magazine in 1909. As a state song, it was adopted in 1927 at Tezpur, Assam Chatro Sanmilan.
The State Bird: White-Winged Wood Duck

The White-Winged Wood Duck symbolizes the Assam State Bird, which is locally known as the deo Hanh. In Assam, the deo Hanh is mostly found in the Fibrosis Khuwa National Park and Nameri National Park. It is a rare species, so local people consider it a divine duck. It has a white wing and a dark body. Deo Hanh is a symbol of Assam’s cultural and environmental importance.
The State Tree Of Assam: Hollong Tree

Hollong tree, the State tree of Assam, is also known as Dipterocarpus macrocarpus. It is mostly found in the Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, which is located in Mariani in Jorhat district. In Assamese tradition, the Hallong tree is known for its utility. The Hallong tree is known for its durable wood and commercial value, and the timber industry uses it in construction, furniture making, and as making valuable economic resource from the Hallong tree.
Because of its value its in threaten, the Hallong tree needs to be conserved because of illegal logging, deforestation. As a symbol of the state tree, we need to focus on its cultural importance, need to stop the illegal cutting of trees, should stop unsustainable practices.
The State Dance of Assam: Bihu

Bihu dance symbolizes the Assamese rich cultural and historic significance. During the Ahom kingdom, bihu was performed at Rang Ghar. It is a traditional folk dance performed especially during Bohag Bihu (Assamese New Year). The first staged performance of Bihu took place in 1962, marking a historic moment in Assamese cultural expression. During Bihu performed women wear Mekhela Sador and men wear dhoti, kurta, and gamosha, which is also the traditional dress of Assam.
Last year, Bihu entered the Guinness World Record for performing Bihu with almost 12000 dancers in the Sarusaji stadium. There are some traditional musical instruments that are hthe eartbeat of bihu –

The State Motto: Jay Aai Asom

The state motto ”Joi Aai Axom” means “glory to the mother of Assam.” জয় আই অসম ” in Assamese language.
