Guwahati, August 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 6 issued a strong directive against persons and organizations who have been collecting money for flood relief without any authorization from the government. “The decision came after reports of people collecting donations at roadsides and traffic signals in the name of helping flood victims.”
As per the Chief Minister, no person or organization shall collect any funds or collect donations from the public on roads without taking permission. He has asked the Assam Police to take strict action against these activities and those who violate the directive.

“The Chief Minister said genuine donations must reach the flood-affected families through proper channels. According to him, roadside collection through banner, donation box, or QR code does not allow one to verify whether the money is reaching its intended beneficiary.”
It is suggested by the state government that people who would like to extend their support to flood victims should make contributions only through the government channels and not any other means.
There have been severe floods in various districts of Assam for the last few weeks, and the government has already taken various steps in this regard for the rehabilitation of the affected people. It is the intention of the government to prevent any unauthorized fundraising campaigns through this recent step.
