In order to let people spend the FIFA World Cup semi-final and final match nights in peace, the Assam government has allowed a special relaxation in the operating hours of the restaurants in Guwahati so that they remain open till 3:30 AM on certain match days.
Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the news through his social media, and he said that
Football unites people, and we want our sports lovers to enjoy the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and final without inconvenience. I have authorized the district administration in Guwahati to extend restaurant operating hours till 3:30 AM on 15th, 16th, 19th, and 20th July to facilitate fans watching the matches. I have authorized the district administrations in other districts to permit similar extensions wherever there is a request from the restaurant owners’ associations and local public demand. Enjoy the beautiful game responsibly.
The temporary relaxation of hours for the operation of restaurants has been well received by both football fans and the hospitality sector. This step will lead to the creation of a festive mood in Guwahati, as the fans will be flocking to the restaurants and coffee shops to enjoy the most crucial matches of the World Cup.
