Maithili Thakur was born on 25th July in 2000 at Madhubani in Bihar. At the age of 6, her family shifted into Dwarka in New Delhi.
However, she completed her schooling at Bal Bhavan International School in Dwarka, Delhi, an affiliated school with CBSE. She did her higher education at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College.

Maithili Thakur is a very good singer. She sings in many languages, such as Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Magahi, and others. In 2011 Maithili entered a competition named Little Champs in Zee TV. After 4 years, she also contested in Indian Idol Junior on Sony TV.
With that, she won the “I Genius Young Singing Star” competition in 2016. She released her own album, “Ya Rabba”. In 2017 she went to Rising Star season 1, where she was the first finalist; however, she did not win the show—she was the runner-up.

Maithili appeared to be thinking about going into politics before the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2025, based on a number of media sites. She discussed with officials of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), such as Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai, which sparked rumours that she could run for office from her home constituency of Benipatti in the Madhubani district.
Maithili officially joined the BJP on October 14, 2025, and got a ticket from the Alinagar constituency. She became the youngest elected member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the nation’s youngest MLA in office after winning the seat with over 74000 votes.
