Early Life And Education
Himanta Biswa Sarma was born on 1st February 1969 in Jorhat, Assam. Later his family moved to Ulubari. He had done his schooling at Kamrup Academy School in Guwahati. Later, he joined Cotton College in 1985 for his undergraduate education. He pursued BA in political science in 1990 and got his MA, also in political science, in 1992 from Cotton College (now Cotton University).
Himanta Biswa Sarma was elected as General Secretary of Cotton College Student Union 3 times in (1988-89, 1989-90, and 1991-92). In fact, he is the 7th Chief Minister of Assam from Cotton College.
After that, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws from Government Law College in Guwahati and became a solicitor in 1995. Later, he practiced in Guwahati High Court from 1996 to 2001. However, in 2006 Sarma completed a Doctorate of Philosophy in Political Science from Guwahati University on the topic of the North Eastern Council.

After some dispute with the former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, he resigned from all positions on 21 July 2014. After his resignation from the assembly on 15 September 2015, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015 at the residence of Amit Shah.
In May 2016, Himanta Biswa Sarma won from the Jalukbari Constituency and became the Minister of Finance, Health and Family Welfare, Education, Planning and Development, Tourism, Pension, and Public Grievances on 24 May under the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Later, in the 2021 election, he became the Chief Minister of Assam.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma promised the people of Assam that he will reduce unemployment; for that, he has given 1 lakh jobs to unemployed youth of Assam. Every year he even conducts some exams like ADRE, Police, TET, APSC, etc.
