Anand Mishra was born on June 1, 1981, at Prasaunda, Shahpur, Bhojpur, in Bihar. However, his ancestry belongs to Jigna, Itarhi, and Buxar in Bihar. He spent his childhood in Bihar and grew up in a middle-class family with discipline and honesty.
While he did his HSLC from Hind Motor Education Centre in West Bengal, he also did his HS from Hind Motor High School in West Bengal. He graduated with a degree in political science from St Xavier’s College in Kolkata. He did his master’s degree in police management from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

Anand Mishra’s IPS journey
In 2005 Mishra cleared the West Bengal Civil Service exam, and then after he started preparing for the UPSC exam. In 2010 he cleared the UPSC exam with AIR ranked 225. He was allotted the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and became an IPS officer. During his training he was known for his discipline and qualities.
Furthermore, during his IPS career posting in Assam and Meghalaya, from 2013 to 2017, he undertook IPS training in Meghalaya; after that, he was transferred into the Assam Police service and served as SP in 2017 in the Dhubri and Nagaon districts. Before he resigned from civil service, he was posted as SSP in Lakhimpur.

On January 29, 2024, he resigned while serving as SP in Lakhimpur. As he said, he wants to pursue a life of freedom and independence that he realised through various social services and others that he wants to service from the root level, and also, being strongly connected to Bihar, he always wants to do something for the Bihar public and stay connected with them. Ananda Mishra’s Political Career
After resigning as an IPS officer in 2024, he contested in the Lok Sabha Election from Buxar as an independent candidate, where he secured nearly 50000 votes. On July 28, 2024, he got extended support from the president of the Jan Suraaj Movement; later, on October 2, 2024, he became a founding member of the Jan Suraaj Party and served as state youth president of Jan Suraaj and led the Yuba Sangharsh Yatra.
However, on May 11, 2025, he resigned from the Jan Suraaj Party. Later, on August 19, 2025, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. On October 15, 2025, his name was announced as a candidate for the Buxar assembly seat in Bihar. He filed a nomination for the Buxar assembly seat on October 17. As a result, he was elected as MLA from Buxar, receiving 84,901 votes and defeating Sanjay Kumar Tiwari by 28,353 votes.
