
Bhimashankar jyotirlinga is situated in Guwahati in Assam, which is also known as Bhimeswar Dham at Dakini hills, also known as Daini Pahar, near Pamohi in Guwahati. According to Shiv Puran, Lord Shiva at the place killed the demon Bhimsura, who is the son of Kumbhakarna.
Mythological connection of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga / Bhimeswar Dham had an ancient mythological period connection. According to Shiv Puran, Lord Shiva killed Bhimasura, who is the son of Kumbhakarna and Kartaki. whereas Kumbhakarna was the brother of Lanka’s demon king, Ravana.
After getting a boon from Brahma, he became so powerful that even Lord Vishnu could not kill him. He later challenged Lord Vishnu to fight with him. Lord Vishnu agreed to his proposal to fight against him. Later he arrogantly fights with one of every kingdom. Then he imprisoned Kamrupa king Priyabharman and his wife, Dakshinadevi. King Priya Bharmaman is also called Kamrupeswar.
King Priyabharman and his wife worship Lord Shiva in the prison; this makes Bhimasura angry. Then Bhimasura’s army tried to stop King Priyabharman from worshiping Shiva. After that, Bhimasura killed King Kamrupeswar, and then Lord Shiva appeared and killed Bhimasura. His sweat became a water stream, and Jyotirlinga formed there.

This temple is situated around 13-14 km from Guwahati, near Deeporbil. On a daily basis many devotees visit the temple. During Shiva Ratri, a maximum of devotees visit there. This Jyotirlinga is in the middle of a water stream on Dakini hills.
Bhimashankare Jyotirlinga is well connected to Guwahati Jalukbari. There are many buses or trackers you can find in Jalukbari and Khanpara to reach the place.
